NEWS: Euro oil association seeks PR to help clear the air

The European Petroleum Industry Association (Europia) is looking to recruit a PR agency in Brussels to promote its role in a Europe-wide campaign to improve air quality.

The European Petroleum Industry Association (Europia) is looking to

recruit a PR agency in Brussels to promote its role in a Europe-wide

campaign to improve air quality.

Established in 1992, the Auto-Oil Programme unites the European

Commission, Europia and the European Automotive Manufacturers

Association in an effort to identify ways of improving air quality

through a reduction in road traffic pollution.

In June this year the commission agreed a strategy to reduce emissions

from road transport by up to 70 per cent in the year 2010 and

legislation is now pending in the European Parliament.

Pamela Mounter, communications adviser for Europia, explained that the

association needed an agency to give advice on how best to present its

research findings and proposals to the public.

She added that the brief would involve some implementation support, but

would not include lobbying.

‘We are quite adamant that any kind of dealings with the Commission or

the Parliament are done by our own people,’ she said.

‘We have the ideas, but need some public relations realists to help us

communicate them,’ she added.

Formed in 1990, Europia represents Europe’s national oil industry

associations and companies, including BP, Esso, Shell and Mobil.
