DIARY: PR’s secret rock star is on a roll with Virgin

Fledgling hi-tech consultancy Hunt Thompson might not seem the likeliest

place to pump out the latest dance sounds, but, I can reveal that 23-

year-old consultant David Billing leads a double life.

A dedicated PR executive by day, by nightBilling composes and produces

tomorrow’s club tracks at a Bromley studio. With the help of two friends

Billing has produced a recordwhich has had an airing recently from Kiss

100 on DJ Graham Gold’s Saturday house show, which voted it ‘cool cut of

the week’. Meanwhile Virgin Records is planning an official release on

its VC label in May.

So is it bye bye PR, hello rock and roll? Probably not, admits Billing.

For one, the group is still a tad too fluid to cope with the demands of

major stardom. ‘There are between two or three of us, if the other guy

turns up,’ he explains. ‘It’s a minimalist sort of thing. Hopefully the

music and PR might fuse together sometime, but I haven’t got any major

plans.’
