Will Hutton, the new editor of the Observer, is continuing his shakeup
of senior posts on the paper with the appointment of Jocelyn Targett as
deputy editor for features.
Targett has been editor of the Mail on Sunday’s Night and Day magazine
since its launch in August 1993. The magazine has helped the MoS
increase sales by over 250,000.
Prior to joining the MoS, Targett worked for the Guardian, joining in
1988 as a features writer, moving up to deputy editor of the Weekend
Guardian and then arts editor.
Meanwhile a number of journalists have left the paper in the wake of
editor Andrew Jaspan and his deputy John Price, who both left a week
ago. These include associate editor Sarah Baxter, promoted by Jaspan
late last year, and assistant editors Nigel Billen, Andrew Hogg, Adrian
Hamilton and Mark Frankland.
