MacLaurin Communication and Media is capitalising on the cable and
satellite industry boom with a raft of new account wins - worth a total
of pounds 120,000 in fees.
UK Gold and UK Living, Irish station Tara TV and US import The Weather
Channel have all signed up with the agency in the last two weeks. MCM
beat four others to win the PR business for archive satellite and cable
station UK Gold and its sister lifestyle channel UK Living. The
channel’s marketers are keen to steal a march on Granada Sky
Broadcasting’s autumn launch of eight new channels.
MCM is formulating a national newspaper and media trade press campaign
for UK Gold to run alongside its nostalgic 1970s-style ad campaign.
United International Holdings Programming, owners of Tara TV which is
aimed at England’s Irish community, has also signed up MCM ready for a
late summer launch.
The campaign is designed to get cable operators to take on the station,
which boasts pounds 120 million worth of programming from Ireland’s
state-owned TV company RTE.
MCM’s third assignment is a broadsheet and trade press push for the UK
launch of 24-hour station The Weather Channel - one of the five most
popular channels in the US.
‘I see cable as a major growth area for the PR industry,’ said MCM
managing director Brian MacLaurin.
