Toshiba’s fax and photocopier division is seeing four PR agencies as
part of an across-the-board marketing review.
The Weybridge-based division is due to see incumbent firm, JSGL
Partnership, formerly Sweetman-Grant, and three other selected agencies
later this month.
London-based PR agency JSGL has held the business, which includes media
relations and press office support, for six years.
Vicky Burr, of the division’s marketing department, said the move
reflected a new company policy of reviewing all suppliers every three
years and that a similar exercise, with both its direct mail and
advertising agencies, had led to the re-appointment of incumbent firms.
However, she stressed that the PR review was not a mere formality.
She said: ‘It is not necessarily going to be a case of just carrying on
with the way things have always been or, alternatively, automatically
throwing out the old agency. We are keeping an open mind.’ Burr added
that a decision was likely by the middle of May.
JSGL is one of several PR agencies working on Toshiba’s UK PR activity.
These include Nelson Bostock Communications, which works for its
consumer division, on such products as television and VCRs, and Argyll
PR, which was hired last year by Toshiba’s office automation division to
promote its PCs.
