Consumer agency Band and Brown Communications has unseated hi-tech firm

A Plus as retained UK PR company to data management business Informix

Software.

The agency won the business, which is thought to have a total budget of

around pounds 200,000, in a four-way pitch. A Plus, which was among the

defeated contenders, had previously held the account for four years.

Barbara Stanley, Informix’s north Europe marketing director, said the

company had picked Band and Brown because it wanted to align itself

‘more closely with corporate and enterprise clients’.

She said: ‘With A Plus’s help, we have managed to build a very strong

profile on the technical side of our business. We now want to reinforce

those technical foundations.

‘I think Band and Brown will be able to identify with the issues of the

corporate market-place. They are creative, they have a good strategic

perspective of the business and they will be able to provide solid media

management of the technical press.’

Nick Band, Band and Brown’s chief executive, said that the business

would focus on media relations with ‘one or two innovative sponsorship

ideas’.

He said: ‘We will be trying to raise the whole issue of databases on the

boardroom agenda. This will be more about understanding the issues

affecting business and customers, rather than talking about the

technical background.

‘It’s not so much about widgets now, it’s about what you do with them

that counts.’
