ESSEN: Coca-Cola’s German office has appointed Klaus Hillebrand,

press and PR head at Germany’s largest PR agency, Kohtes and Klewes, as

external affairs director.

Based in Essen, Hillebrand will be in charge of 15 people working on

media relations, corporate affairs, government relations and consumer

affairs. He will report to divisional president John Sechi. Hillebrand

replaces Bernd Hader, who retires on 1 April having been in the position

for 35 years.

Hillebrand’s main task will be to lobby the government over

controversial environmental issues, including packaging recycling. He

will also be responsible for internal communications to the company’s

14,000 employees.

Hillebrand had previously worked at K&K’s Bonn office for three

years.

He was responsible for a number of major clients, there including

Coca-Cola. He joined K&K as managing director in 1996 and oversaw

development of the press and media relations side of the agency’s

business.

Hillebrand has previously worked for Coca-Cola, as media relations

manager in Essen from 1988 to 1989.
