The University of East London has hired Communications Management
and lobbying firm GJW to promote its new pounds 40 million campus in the
Docklands, which is to open in September.
Work starts on the pounds 60,000 budget business-to-business, public
affairs and community relations account this week.
The business was won following a pitch which included Bell Pottinger and
Hill and Knowlton. The programme will support the repositioning of the
university as a major educational body in the capital. ’The brief is to
develop the university’s reputation among the local community and local
businesses,’ said Communications Management account director Justin
Shaw.
A crucial part of the campaign is to promote the campus’ business
centre, the Thames Gateway Technology Centre, which will provide
services to businesses and educational departments.
University of East London head of communication and publicity Christine
Hodgson said: ’We aim to raise the profile and visibility of the
university as a whole, to reposition it as significant in the eyes of
decision makers, and to support student recruitment.’
She added that the brief includes emphasising the importance the
university plays in the regeneration of London’s Docklands.
The university currently has 12,000 students. It expects that figure to
rise to around 15,000 by 2005.
