PUBLIC SECTOR: Global initiative for Maths Year 2000

Maths Year 2000, the global initiative to improve numeracy and the development of maths skills among all age groups, has started the trawl for a director with PR experience. The Oxford-based position, which carries a salary of between pounds 45,000 and pounds 55,000, will involve liaising closely with senior Department for Education and Employment staff in support of the Government’s National Numeracy Strategy. If the job fails to attract someone with the suitable PR experience, the organisation is likely to appoint a PR specialist at the next management level down. The director will be responsible for working with media personalities, educationalists and industrialists. The International Mathematics Union has been promoting the idea of Maths Year 2000 globally. The UK launch of the project will not be announced until next week at a bespoke conference and press event; the launch proper will take place in April.
