The Palace is looking for a member of the Government Information and
Communication Service to be seconded to the newly-created post.
The PRO will go on the road with members of the Royal family, securing
coverage in the regional media.
The new recruit will join the ten-strong PR team at Buckingham Palace,
and will report to the Queen’s press secretary, Geoffrey Crawford. He or
she will help organise media coverage for all members of the Royal
family involved in the official programme. The 13 members include: The
Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen’s children, the Queen Mother,
Princess Margaret and the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
There are around 2,000 Royal engagements each year, the majority of
which take place outside London.
The appointment is part of the Palace’s commitment to devoting more
resources to communications, following the appointment of Simon Lewis as
communications secretary to the Queen last September.
Lewis joined the Palace last year on secondment from gas supply company
Centrica, where he was corporate affairs director.
