MILAN: C&W is new flavour for McDonald’s



Fast food giant McDonald’s has signed up Cohn and Wolfe as its PR agency

in Italy. Confirmed last week, the appointment followed a pitch against

Fleishman Hillard and McDonald’s’ previous agency Shandwick. Worth

around pounds 130,000 in annual fees, the account will involve C&W in

organising events such as restaurant openings and promoting the quality

of McDonald’s food. The agency will also manage internal communications.

Earlier this year the company bought Italy’s Burghy hamburger chain for

pounds 85 million.



AMSTERDAM: EasyJet drops H&K Nederland



EasyJet, the cut price airline, has dropped Hill and Knowlton Nederland

as its PR agency in the Netherlands. The agency was hired six months ago

to launch EasyJet’s service between Luton and Amsterdam Airport

Schiphol. Karen Hedges, EasyJet’s PR executive, explained that the

relationship ended because of cost reasons rather than dissatisfaction

over the agency’s performance. PR for the route will be handled in-house

until a replacement is found.



ATHENS: Publicom/H&K to boost Pixida



Publicom/Hill and Knowlton has been hired by weekly listings magazine

Pixida on a project basis until the end of the year. The agency will

support the title’s September launch with media coverage and by

identifying sponsorship opportunities. ‘We’ll be making sure as many

people as possible in Athens know the magazine exists,’ said H&K

managing director Jim Donaldson.



BRUSSELS: Weerts elected ABCD president



The Association of Belgian Communication Directors (ABCD) has named

Christophe Weerts as its new president. Director of communications for

steel group Cockerill, Weerts succeeds Jean-Marie Chandelle, who held

the ABCD presidency for two years. Chandelle stepped down in July after

he was appointed director general of CEM Bureau, the European cement

industry association. Piet van Speybroeck, communications director at

Alcatel Bell, succeeds Interel’s Jan van Heuverswijn as vice president.



MILAN: Barabino to handle Ittierre flotation



Barabino e Partners has been called in by clothing manufacturer and

distributor Ittierre Holding to assist with a planned stock market

flotation early next year. The company, which is based in Isernia,

manufactures and distributes clothing lines for several fashion houses

including Versace, Dolce e Gabbana and Gianfranco Ferre, as well as its

own labels. The two year contract is worth about pounds 120,000 in fees.

Four other consultancies, including The Rowland Company, pitched for the

business.



FRANKFURT: ICO and GPRA plan conference



ICO, the international PR consultancy association and GPRA,the German PR

association, are to host a conference in November on PR evaluation. The

event will bring together 50 delegates from around the world to explore

ways of harmonising evaluation techniques. ‘We want those who have shown

commitment to developing techniques to join us,’ said ICO president

Peter Hehir, who will co-chair the event with GPRA president Dietmar

Muller.
