IPR CONFERENCE: Deadline extended for feedback on EC Green Paper

The European Commission has given a final call for the PR industry to contact it with views on the European Green Paper on Commercial Communications.

The European Commission has given a final call for the PR industry to

contact it with views on the European Green Paper on Commercial

Communications.

Jean Bergevin, from DGXV’s Media, Commercial Communications and Unfair

Competition Unit, said the EC has extended its deadline for responses

from 30 October to 30 November in a bid to encourage feedback.

Bergevin, who is responsible for drafting the paper, told the conference

the EC had been ‘abysmal’ at communicating its role in the formation of

the document.

The aim of the paper is to de-regulate, by reviewing existing national

laws which inhibit any form of commercial communications across borders

within the EU.

Bergevin’s request comes two weeks after IPR president Rosemary Brook

criticised the UK PR industry for being ‘shamefully and conspicuously

unresponsive’ to the EU’s pre-paper consultation.
