NEWS: Morris calls time on Bass Brewers

Bass Brewers head of communications Ian Morris has accepted a new top level public relations job at the telecoms company Ionica.

Bass Brewers head of communications Ian Morris has accepted a new top

level public relations job at the telecoms company Ionica.

Morris is to join the Cambridge-based firm as head of external affairs

in December on an estimated salary of pounds 125,000.

He was hired by the brewing arm of Bass PLC four years ago to build a

corporate communications division, uniting PR support for individual

brands under one roof.

He will leave behind a team of nine which includes Lesley Allman,

manager, external communications, internal affairs head Mike Maryon and

brand public relations manager Jane Sabini.

Ionica used recruitment consultants Taylor Bennett to find candidates

for the newly-created job. (PR Week, 23 August 1996).

Reporting to chief executive Nigel Playford, Morris will head financial

and corporate PR, internal communications, public information and media

relations.

The appointment comes eight months after the departure of publicity

manager Mish Desmidt.

Desmidt replaced the company’s most recent head of public relations Sean

Gough who left Ionica 18 months ago.

It is not yet known who will take over Morris’ job at Bass Brewers.

The brewing company is the largest arm of the hotels to pub group,

producing the UK’s best selling lager Carling Black Label and the

controversial ‘alcopop’ Hoopers Hooch.
