GE Capital Travel Insurance Services has appointed its first
retained PR agency, specialist travel PR firm Brighter PR, to help build
awareness of its products within the travel industry.
Brighter PR, part of the Ansdell Group, was appointed after a four-way
pitch. Hill and Knowlton, which handles corporate PR in the UK and
across Europe for parent company GE Capital, worked on ad hoc projects
prior to the appointment of Brighter.
The agency will focus on media relations with the travel press, creating
speaking opportunities for the company and assisting with its staff
training programme. Debbie Flynn, managing director of Brighter, said:
’Travel insurance is a topical subject, with retailers such as Boots and
the Post Office now entering the market. We will help GE Capital to
differentiate its insurance products in this market place.’
GE Capital Travel Insurance Services provides around three million
policies to UK travellers through high street chains such as Lunn Poly
and Carlson Worldchoice and also through independent travel agents. It
was known until May this year as Accident and General but rebranded to
capitalise on the strength of its parent group.
Brighter PR reports to GE Capital Travel Insurance Services’ marketing
manager Chris Burden. The company has a marketing department but no
separate in-house PR resource.
Over the next year GE Capital is planning to expand Travel Insurance
Services outside the UK. It will continue to focus on the UK but is
licensed to provide insurance policies in most countries across Europe
and in the longer term may look to the rest of the world.
