Diary: The UK footballers who wound up in an Irish stew

As Brazilian footballer Juninho finally decides Atletico Madrid, not Spurs, will be his new home, news reaches me of another UK squad that’s in need of a good player or three.

For, in a sad day for the public relations industry, UK’s PR finest have

just been trounced 5-0 by their Irish brethren in a Dublin

international.

UK coach Peter Hehir, who doubles up as Countrywide Porter Novelli UK’s

chairman, admits our lads were simply outclassed. ’It was a game of two

halves and we lost both of them,’ he says. ’It was 1-0 at half-time but we

got a little overwhelmed in the second half. It happens though: Manchester

United lost 5-0 a couple of times last year. It could have been 10-0.’

The stoical Hehir is now preparing for the rematch, provisionally planned

for Cambridge in late October.
