London brewer Fuller Smith and Turner has appointed Gill Shaffer as

its first dedicated public relations manager as part of its profile

boosting campaign.

Following Fuller’s flotation last year, the company is targeting consumers

and the financial and business sectors in a bid to become more outwardly

focused.

John Roberts, marketing director, said: ’We need to capitalise on the fact

that we are seen as a quality brand and the appointment is a result of

that.’

Shaffer will be focusing on the three main divisions - 204 Fuller’s Inns,

75 Fuller’s Wine Shops and Fuller’s Beer Company.

Shaffer is moving in-house after a stint as a freelance and seven years

experience at Bulletin International and Grayling.

’I decided it was time to cross the fence,’ Shaffer said. ’There’s more

depth to in-house work - you can really get results.’

The brewery’s brands include London Pride, ESB and Chiswick Bitter. It

launched its first TV advertising campaign for flagship beer, London

Pride, in April.

Plans also include the development of new bars, the first of which is due

to open at the end of the summer. It will target 25- to 35-year-olds and

will have a ’female friendly’ emphasis.

The Chiswick-based brewery’s customers include Harrods and British

Airways, and the beers are available nationwide through supermarkets and

off-licences.
