Oxford-based medical publisher Blackwell Science has made a leap
forward in its drive to break into PR with the acquisition of healthcare
specialist Bullet Communications.
The six-year-old agency has been bought for an undisclosed sum.
Blackwell’s director of medical publishing, Peter Saugman, revealed plans
for an acquisition in May (PR Week, 2 May 1997).
Bullet, which had a turnover of pounds 2.3 million last year, was set up
by directors Nicola Ilett and Stephen Buckley and currently has a staff of
28. ’It’s business as usual,’ said Ilett. ’The link with Blackwell will
mean we will be able to offer our clients wider services.’
Two board directors from Blackwell Science, executive director Martin
Wilkinson and Peter Saugman, will join the Bullet board, while the
management committee will remain the same.
’Bullet will gain from the wealth of ethical medical experience and
medical education knowledge we have,’ said Wilkinson. ’They have the kind
of clients we want to be associated with.’
Bullet’s clients include Glaxo Wellcome, SmithKline Beecham, Pfizer,
Novartis, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Sanofi and Merck Sharp and Dohme.
As well as its publishing company, Blackwell Science also owns Blackwell
Healthcare Communications, the medical education division of the company,
and Blackwell Healthcare PR.
