Prize of the week for the most innovative form of inducement to a
journalist goes to Mark Borkowski PR.
In a cynical attempt to bribe 90 hard-nosed media hacks to attend a
preview screening of Channel 4’s new comedy series Porkpie, MBPR stapled
a National Lottery ticket to each invitation.
‘You should have seen the looks I got in Woolworth’s when they saw I was
buying 90,’ says MBPR’s Holly Morris.
It was only when Morris spotted the result of the draw later in the week
that she realised one had five winning numbers. ‘It’s not much compared
to some weeks, but pounds 796 is better than nothing’.
Surprisingly nobody mentioned it at the screening. ‘Maybe they thought
I’d demand the money.’
But she fears there may be another explanation: the winning hack did
what comes most naturally when presented with a press release - and
binned it.
