My attention has been drawn to your diary story, ‘The BBC is fighting
journalistic fire with fire’ (PR Week, 27 October), which refers to
‘Burson-Marsteller’s tabloid hack turned media adviser, Steve Ellis’.
I am sure you would be kind enough to point out to your readers that
there are two Steve Ellises. For my part, I have been a financial
journalist for more years than I care to remember, and this week
collected the Bradford and Bingley Award as the country’s top freelance
personal finance journalist. I am responsible for producing both a
weekly personal finance column for the Sun, together with a monthly
supplement, as well as contributing to other nationals. So I have the
‘tabloid’ tag as well.
To add to the confusion, I also undertake media training providing
courses for the Association of British Insurers, The British Bankers
Association and IFAP.
Maybe there’s more in a name than people think, given the similarity
between my credentials and my namesake.
