Service Team Group, which provides contracted services such as
refuse collection and catering to 120 local authorities, is seeking its
first public affairs agency.
The company was bought from its German owner, pharmaceutical company
Gehe, three years ago by three service managers and a councillor from
Lewisham Council in London. It has since more than doubled its turnover
to pounds 96 million and won contracts including Lambeth Council, Camden
Council, and Warwick Council, worth a total of pounds 53 million.
Philip Walker, group director, said: ’We have turned the company around
and now need to share our success with the wider business and Government
Service Team is keen to participate in the debate over local authority
services. The Government is considering issues including abolishing
competitive tendering for council services as part of its preparation
for the white paper on local government.
’We are unique on the marketplace as we only service local authorities.
It would be a great shame if the Government did not involve us in the
discussion,’ Walker added.
