DIARY: Super, smashing, great... Bowen steps up to the line for hi-tech Lewis

This week’s prize for the most bizarre signing must go to Covent Garden based hi-tech agency Lewis which has hired none other than Jim Bowen, infamous host of the TV game show Bullseye, as its ‘press spokesman’.

This week’s prize for the most bizarre signing must go to Covent Garden

based hi-tech agency Lewis which has hired none other than Jim Bowen,

infamous host of the TV game show Bullseye, as its ‘press spokesman’.

No, its not a wind-up. Jim-lets-have-a-look-at-what-you-could-have-won-

Bowen will be the first point of contact for news on Lewis’ contract

wins, and staff appointments.

Agency consultant director Simon Hill says the company was looking for

someone ‘outside the normal run of things’ to raise Lewis’ profile.

‘We’ve appointed Jim because he’s like us in so many ways,’ explains

Hill without a trace of irony.

‘He’s different from the average character in hi-tech marketing and PR,

he’s down to earth, practical and he’s got a sense of humour.’

Hill refused to acknowledge that a press release with Jim Bowen’s name

on the bottom of it might might have journalists wondering whether

they’re following up a story about mother boards or dart boards.

Meanwhile Bowen, who is on a year’s contract, got stuck into the job in

hand with a press statement from his Lake District home: ‘It’s really

great to be working with the team at Lewis. They’re a smashing bunch of

people,’ he says. ‘I’ve seen the care and thought they put into their

work - no wonder clients think they’re super.’ (Smashing, great, Ed).
