Westminster City Council has awarded its two-year public affairs
account to The Communication Group following a competitive pitch against
incumbent agency Advocacy.
The agency, which begins work this month, will handle government
relations on issues which include: the Government’s plan for a Greater
London Authority and an elected mayor; strategic spending assessments -
by which Government decides how much money to allocate to councils; the
recent influx of asylum-seekers from central and eastern Europe; the
regulation of advertisements in telephone boxes and the location of
needle exchanges for drug addicts.
As part of a cost-cutting exercise, the council will handle in-house
most of its political monitoring which was previously part of its agency
