Bill Hamilton, head of public affairs at Safeway Stores, is leaving

to become a director at Grayling London, the PR headquarters of the

Grayling Group.

His remit is to strengthen the relationship between Grayling and its

sister agency Westminster Strategy, which is Safeway’s retained public

affairs agency. Both agencies are owned by communications and marketing

group Lopex.

Hamilton, who begins his new job early next month, joins the nine-strong

board of directors of Grayling London and will report to Grayling Group

managing director Nigel Kennedy.

Aside from forging links between the PR and public affairs units of

Grayling, Hamilton will be responsible for developing new corporate and

business-to-business clients.

He said: ’I felt the opportunity to join Grayling as a director was too

good to miss. The Grayling Group has a very open management style which

I like.’

Hamilton, 43, joined Safeway two years ago as the company’s first public

affairs head. He reported to communications director Kevin Hawkins, and

acted as the company’s media spokesperson.
