The Chamber of Shipping, the trade association for UK ship-owners,
is believed to be about to review its public affairs account, held by
Bell Pottinger Public Affairs since 1990.
The Chamber of Shipping handles its parliamentary monitoring in-house
and Bell Pottinger’s main brief has been to raise the profile of the
chamber and of the British shipping industry in general as well as
providing strategic public affairs advice.
The two main government relations issues facing the chamber are:
implementing more favourable taxes for ship-owners, and increasing
incentives for ship-owners to employ British seafarers.
The Chamber of Shipping has participated in the Labour Government’s
recent working group on shipping. The group’s report is expected to
contribute to the transport white paper, due to be published next month.
