What is it good for?
Although Locale is a chain we were impressed to find the restaurant served up an authentic Italian experience. It is minutes from Waterloo station and has a separate bar area - perfect for after-work cocktails with journos, especially with IPC based down the road.
Locale's large menu has a good mix of meats, fish and freshly made pastas and breads. We had the Antipasto Locale to share for a starter, which was made with aubergines and artichokes and included freshly baked focaccia, tomato bruschetta and Sardinian crisp bread.
Who's the boss?
The restaurants are all owner-operated with their kitchens headed up by executive chef Paolo Barone.
I would recommend the seated outside area overlooking County Hall for a cocktail - although you can't eat out there.
What's the damage?
Locale is reasonably priced given its great location, but there are no set menus for lunch or dinner. Pizzas are no more than £10 but meat dishes range from £10-£20.
