3Com, the global data networking company, is reviewing its estimated
pounds 500,000 pan-European PR contract.
Hill and Knowlton, 3Com’s UK and European public relations adviser, is
pitching to keep the business this week against a shortlist of two other
H&K was appointed to handle the corporate and business to business
contract three years ago. It won the UK contract 18 months later.
The agency has been targeting the international technology media and
briefing industry analysts and consultants as part of the Silicon
Valley-based company’s rapid expansion into Europe.
The pitch process is being handled by 3Com’s senior buyer for Europe
Jerry Cole and the firm’s European PR manager Heather Miller, who is
based at 3Com’s European marketing department in Watford.
‘We have had a very successful working relationship,’ commented H&K
board director Giles Fraser, who heads the account team.
The team will continue to manage 3Com’s UK corporate and business public
3Com Europe comprises six national subsidiaries based in the UK, France,
Italy, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands, covering over 36 countries.
European revenue now accounts for over 40 per cent of the 16 year-old
company’s global turnover. 3Com’s 1996 second quarter results recorded
sales of dollars 563.5 million (pounds 366 million) and net income of
dollars 16.3 million (pounds 10.45 million).
