Cable and Wireless Communications - the company formed by the

merger between Mercury Communications and cable operators Nynex, Bell

CableMedia and Videotron - is stepping up its search for a head of

corporate communications.

Reporting to marketing director Ruth Blakemore, the new communications

director is expected to introduce a new structure that is, according to

a CWC spokesman, unlikely to have room for all current communications

staff from the merged companies. It is understood that people will have

to reapply for their jobs.

Media relations and internal communications are currently being handled

by the communications task force, headed by Esther Kaposi from Mercury,

which was set up when the merger was announced last year.

The task force is currently preparing for CWC’s launch advertising

campaign, the first stage of which is expected to break next month.
