John Martin, chairman of Welbeck Golin/ Harris Communications, has

left the Shandwick subsidiary to start up his own company, John Martin

Communications.

He has been replaced as chairman by chief executive Ann Brunton, while

managing director Alison Clarke has been made chief executive.

Shandwick UK managing director Colin Trusler said the managing director

post at Welbeck would not be filled.

Martin, who had been with Welbeck for 27 years, would not comment on the

exact reasons for his departure. Trusler said: ’He decided that he

wanted to pursue other interests, we had a lot of conversations and he

decided to go - there are no histrionics over this.’

Martin, who was once both chairman and chief executive, had been

chairman for the last five years. His official departure from Welbeck

came in early February, but there had been no announcement of his going

and Martin had continued to work on some accounts including Nestle

Rowntree.

He said: ’Some Welbeck clients knew I had left, and I had job offers

from various quarters, but I didn’t want to become a senior adviser at

someone else’s firm.’
