BT’s Internet services division is poised to hire Bite
Communications in an estimated pounds 200,000 annual public relations
blitz designed to reinforce its presence in the Internet market.
Although the appointment has yet to be confirmed, BT Business
Internet/Intranet Services is believed to have selected Bite to manage
PR for its diverse portfolio following a three-way pitch last month.
Profile PR and Spec Communications - which already handle work for other
BT divisions - also bid for the business.
Although Bite declined to comment, it is understood that the agency will
take over the account at the end of May from Band and Brown
That agency has been advising BT on how to bring together the
communications for its various Internet services. These include access
provider BT Internet, hosting service BT Web World, network handler
BTnet and BT Intranet.
Bite’s main task will be to establish BT Business Internet/Intranet
Services as a major market player among client companies in the face of
competition from rivals such as Uunet Pipex and Demon Internet.
PBite has also scooped an estimated pounds 50,000 PR account from
Progressive Networks, the provider of real time media over the Internet.
