Nicola Rossi is to join the National Pharmacy Association as director of communications later this year, in a newly created role. She will also oversee the external relations team.

She leaves BT Health after three years. BT is one of the largest suppliers of IT services to the NHS. It also plays a role in the NHS National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT), the world's largest civilian IT programme.

Rossi has been working in communications management roles for BT for more than 20 years and has spent time in the BT press office.

She will join the NPA in December. The NPA represents the community pharmacy industry in the UK, including promoting the interests of community pharmacy to the Government both at a national and European level.

'Community pharmacy is extremely popular with the general public,' said Rossi. 'The NPA has a legitimate voice on a range of healthcare issues. My job will be to ensure that voice is heard, on behalf of community pharmacy, helping it to play a strategic role in policy-making and service delivery.'

NPA chief executive John Turk added: 'We have made this appointment to strengthen our representation with our most influential stakeholders. Nicola has a very strong track record working with strategic offices.'

Before joining BT, Rossi worked in the press office at the Design Council and was head of European PR for Frost and Sullivan.
