DIARY: Maitland recruit needs to improve his lines of communication

The cold weather must be affecting telephone lines at the Independent. As many as ten of my messages left for City journalist and Maitland consultant-to-be Philip Robinson went unheeded. And, when I finally got through to deputy City and business editor Phil, I assume there must have been a fault on the line because our chat about his new job ended before it had really started. Let’s hope his communication lines to other journalists run more smoothly when his PR career kicks off.
