Opinion: From Our Readers - CIPR: We want to bring lobbying into the open

The CIPR has written to Francis Maude MP welcoming the publication of the Conservatives' proposals on transparency in lobbying, and recommending they be broadened to include those who work in-house.

At the moment most lobbyists work in-house; for trade associations, NGOs or private corporations. The majority remain unregulated in those areas that cause the most public concern: honesty and transparency.

Working under the auspices of the Public Affairs Council (PAC), which is being formed by the self-regulatory bodies to simplify the regulation of lobbyists, it is our intention to create a register of all lobbyists in the UK to ensure universal regulation.
