MCL, the importer of Mazda and Kia Cars in the UK, has appointed Peter
Frater group head of public relations.
Frater joined Tunbridge Wells-based MCL last month from Inchcape Motors
International, a division of the marketing and services giant Inchcape.
As IMI PR director, Frater’s responsibilities included internal
communications, media relations and PR.
At MCL, Frater will report directly to managing director David Heslop.
His appointment is part of a bid to upgrade the PR function, which was
formerly part of MCL’s marketing department.
Frater, who envisages that future public relations activity will be run
largely in-house, said he aims to return MCL’s PR function to the‘high
level it used to enjoy’. At MCL, he is supported by press and PR manager
Graeme Fudge and PR consultant Frank Page,
During his nine years with the Inchcape group, which owns 40 per cent of
MCL, Frater worked on such brands as Alfa Romeo, Daihatsu and the
Chrysler Jeep. Before joining Inchcape he wrote for national motoring
magazines and regional newspapers.
Frater’s responsibilities at IMI are being handled by Inchcape’s group
corporate affairs department, headed by Paul Barber. Barber said
Inchcape was reviewing whether the role would continue to be carried out
by his department.
