Gordon’s, Britain’s leading brand of gin, is up for grabs following a
decision by United Distillers UK to put the PR account out to pitch.
The review signals the end of four year’s work on Gordon’s Gin by The
Communication Group.
Steve Boland, head of brands publicity at United Distillers UK,
confirmed the agency was not involved in the pitch for the task of
promoting Britain’s third biggest spirits brand.
But TCG will continue to work on the account until a replacement is
found. ‘They have been working on this account since 1991, and we part
amicably,’ said Boland.
‘We are talking to a small number of other agencies regarding the
Gordon’s business in the UK,’ he said, adding no other agencies would be
considered at this stage.
Peter Hamilton, managing director of TCG, confirmed the split saying
Gordon’s had been the only spirits brand handled by its consumer
division.
The decision by the spirits group leaves just two agencies on its
roster. Jackie Cooper PR handles work for Gordon’s sister gin brand
Tanqueray, while Richard Mulcaster and Associates handles PR for all
whisky brands including Bell’s.
The review comes during an aggressive marketing drive for Gordon’s.
