Post Office Counters is scouring the PR market for a head of PR, in the
latest move by the Post Office to improve its communications structure.
The company, which has employed headhunters for the search, confirmed
that it had already interviewed several candidates for the post but
declined to comment further until it had made an appointment.
However, sources indicate that the job carries a salary of around pounds
60,000 and will involve brand marketing functions and internal
communications for Post Office Counters’ 13,000 employees.
With 19,500 outlets, Post Office Counters is the largest retailer in the
UK. This year it expanded into the financial services sector with the
launch of two insurance products.
Last year the Post Office embarked on a massive public relations revamp.
Around 2,900 group staff were redeployed across its three businesses -
Post Office Counters, Royal Mail and Parcelforce - under group director
of communications and corporate relations Alan Williams (PR Week, 27
October, 1995).
