The Association of Chief Police Officers has appointed Tim Mahony as its
new head of information.
Mahony, 51, succeeds John Deal, who moved to Merseyside Police in
September, as head of media services and communications, after three
years with the association.
Mahony, who heads up a two-strong London team within ACPO’s secretariat,
was previously policy PR co-ordinator with the recently-created
Environment Agency for England and Wales.
His career experience includes being head of information at the now-
defunct Inspectorate of Pollution, head of the Metropolitan Police’s 24-
hour press bureau and head of PR at Sussex Police. He spent a previous
period with ACPO, between 1990 and 1992, working as its first press
officer.
Mahony, who joined ACPO last week, said he intended to develop the
network of contacts with forces and chief police officers that his
predecessor had developed.
