Granada and British Sky Broadcasting are hunting for a head of press to
join their pounds 20 million joint venture Granada Sky Broadcasting -
set to launch this autumn.
The chosen candidate will join a new marketing team based near London
Weekend Television’s headquarters, run by chief executive Stuart Prebble
and commercial director Jerry Glover.
Granada’s corporate affairs director Chris Hopson said Granada TV and
LWT’s London and Manchester press offices would continue to provide
press and programme publicity services for the new station because of
their inside production knowledge.
The head of press is expected to have television and satellite public
relations experience. He or she will handle corporate public relations
for Granada Sky Broadcasting and programme publicity for its eight new
These will include an archive channel called Granada Gold Plus, a talk
show station and a range of ‘lifestyle’ channels such as Health and
Beauty and Homes and Gardens.
Granada and BSkyB are aiming to make an appointment within the next few
months. The head of press will then decide whether to expand the press
‘The job is the equivalent of running a major television channel’s
programme publicity and a corporate press office,’ said Hopson. ‘It is a
big, responsible role.’
Granada, which has a 60 per cent economic interest in Granada Sky
Broadcasting, is reported to be expecting a potential audience of around
five million viewers.
