ChaMPs, the public health network for Cheshire and Merseyside, has appointed BJL to handle a brief aimed at reducing alcohol consumption among 35- to 55-year-old men primarily in manual occupations. The appointment follows a competitive pitch against undisclosed agencies on the NHS social marketing roster.
NHS 24 has selected Consolidated PR to handle PR for NHS Scotland's Be Ready for Winter and Be Ready for Easter campaigns, following a three-way pitch. Consolidated PR's brief is to deliver a widespread and sustained media campaign to support the annual NHS Scotland advertising drive, encouraging people to use the correct and appropriate NHS services available to them during the busy winter months and Easter bank holiday weekend. The CIPR Local Public Services Group has announced its shortlist of entries for the 2009 Excellence in Communications Awards. Competitors for communicators of the year include Camden, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Essex, Somerset and Stockport. The full shortlist is available at cipr.co.uk/lps/index.htm. The overall winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on Friday 16 October in Edinburgh.
IPB Communications, a public sector-focused agency, has recruited Craig Downs as senior consultant, to work with its clients in the North East. Downs joins IPB from Four Housing Group, where he worked as marketing and PR manager. He had previously headed up the communications department of Wear Valley District Council.
The London Borough of Hackney has appointed Carl Welham as interim assistant chief executive, communications and consultation. Welham joins from Buckinghamshire County Council where he was head of comms and customer service. The London Borough of Hackney has been shortlisted for the media relations category in the CIPR's 2009 Excellence in Communications Awards for its 2012 handover campaign.
