The British Medical Association, the trade association for doctors,

is creating a new public affairs department in Wales in the run-up to

devolution.

Until now, the London press office has covered the region but the BMA is

now looking to base its first dedicated public affairs officer in

Cardiff.

The role combines political monitoring and lobbying, researching and

writing briefing notes, and press relations. The new recruit will report

to and work closely with the association’s Welsh secretary Dr Bob

Broughton, who heads the 11-strong office. Elections to the Welsh

Assembly take place on 6 May with the official opening by the Queen on

26 May.
