Regional airline KLM UK has selected Consolidated Communications as

its PR agency for England and Wales and reappointed incumbent

Edinburgh-based agency Carnegie PR to handle its Scottish PR.

This follows the airline’s rebranding last year, after minority

shareholder KLM Royal Dutch swallowed Air UK and renamed it KLM UK.

Consolidated and Carnegie competed for the six-figure fee account

against five other shortlisted agencies. These included incumbents the

Saltmarsh Partnership and Newcastle-based Bradley O’Mahoney PR, which

split the airline’s English and Welsh PR between them.

Shandwick and Ketchum also pitched for the work.

Consolidated and Carnegie have been briefed to handle consumer and

crisis PR and public affairs, raising awareness of the extent of KLM

UK’s regional presence. They will report to KLM UK’s corporate

communications manager, Jessica Peck, who heads an in-house team of

three.

Both agencies will also work for parent company KLM Royal Dutch to

promote its worldwide services in the UK.

Peck said: ’We are looking for a fresh approach. We are quite young and

rebranded as KLM UK last year, and we intend to capitalise on that and

raise brand awareness among consumers.’

KLM UK operates from 21 airports in the UK, including London Heathrow,

and runs flights to Amsterdam as well as internal flights. From

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, KLM UK passengers can fly on to almost 400

cities worldwide.
