Guinness is to hold a pitch for a consumer agency to handle its PR

across Britain.

Guinness GB, which covers England, Scotland and Wales, intends to

recruit the agency as part of an overhaul of its consumer PR operation

designed to bring in more external advice. The pitch for Guinness GB’s

first retained consumer agency in seven years will be overseen by the

company’s PR manager, a new post which the company is currently trying

to fill.

Until an appointment is made, the Red Consultancy has been retained on a

project basis to handle forthcoming events such as the launch of extra

cold draught Guinness, St Patrick’s day on 17 March, and a new

advertisement.

The new PR manager will replace PR and sponsorship controller Roy

Mantle, who left at the end of December to join sports marketing agency

Premiere Consultants.

Guinness has not retained consumer PR agencies for Britain since

1992.

Premiere is now handling sponsorship and events PR for Guinness -

previously Mantle’s responsibility in-house. Three of the staff who

reported to Mantle have left Guinness since the autumn and have not been

replaced.
