Settle puts TV behind her for Talk Radio role

Talk Radio has poached EastEnders publicity officer Ruth Settle

from the BBC to be its new PR director.

Before joining the soap opera, Settle worked for entertainment cable

channel Live TV, which was then headed by current Talk Radio chairman

and chief executive Kelvin MacKenzie.

Settle joins in February and will report directly to MacKenzie. Her

remit includes all aspects of Talk’s PR, including programme and

corporate PR and an element of personal PR for MacKenzie.

Her role was previously handled by agency the Media Foundry, whose

account director Alison Halstead was seconded to Talk Radio and ran the

channel’s press operation. The agency’s contract with talk is about to

end.

McKenzie said: ’Ruth is a talented communicator. She’ll be responsible

for raising the profile of Talk Radio, our new programming and

presenters.

After successfully dealing with the Mitchell brothers, she won’t have

any problems with me.’

Settle has worked for the BBC for six months, reporting to BBC drama

senior publicity officer Alan Ayres.

A consortium headed by McKenzie successfully acquired Talk Radio last

autumn from its previous owner, Luxembourg-based radio company

CLT-EFA.

Talk Radio retains Shandwick Financial.
