Cable broadcasters the National Geographic Channel has chosen
Charles Barker BSMG to handle a six- month project to promote it as it
expands across Europe.
The work carries a five-figure fee. Sonia Jackson, marketing head at the
channel, said it was attracted by Charles Barker’s creativity and the
fact that it has a presence across Europe.
The agency’s travel and leisure division will produce a communications
strategy for the channel, organise events and raise the channel’s
profile, primarily through media relations. The work will be aimed
initially at encouraging cable operators to carry the channel.
The channel has been broadcasting in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia for
a year now and claims 15 million subscribers in Europe. It launched in
Poland, Hungary and the Benelux countries this summer and plans further
expansion in Europe in autumn.
