Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

The Local Government Association has brought in Quintus associate director Iain Wilton to head up its lobbying. Wilton was a special adviser to ex-Tory leader Michael Howard during his time as employment secretary and worked as an aide to former health secretary William Waldegrave.

The British Council of Shopping Centres has appointed Phillipa Latimer as its first public affairs manager. Latimer is a Labour PPC and former government affairs adviser at the National House-Building Council.

The Chartered Institute of Taxation has hired George Crozier as external relations manager. Crozier was a speechwriter for Paddy Ashdown during his time as Liberal Democrat leader, before becoming manager of the party's intelligence and comms section.

Fishburn Hedges has teamed up with Channel 4 News to launch a Twitter-themed fringe event at this year's Labour and Conservative Party conferences. The 'twinge' will use Twitter to widen the audience, with panellists able to respond to questions and comments tweeted on to a 'Twitterwall'. Speakers include Foreign Secretary David Miliband, Tory MEP Daniel Hannan and blogger Iain Dale.
