Newly appointed: Cairbre Sugrue

Oracle senior director of corporate communications Cairbre Sugrue joins Edelman as MD of its UK technology practice.

Sugrue will be responsible for existing client relationships as well as growing the practice, which includes consumer electronics, clean technology, digital entertainment and analyst relations.

He takes over from Jonathan Hargreaves, who has been given an expanded role with additional European and global leadership responsibilities within the tech practice.

Hargreaves will now work closely with UK CEO Robert Phillips in the UK to support the strategic developments of the agency, focusing in particular on the implications of new technologies for the communications industry.

Sugrue joined Oracle, the world's largest enterprise software company, in 2005. He has been responsible for internal and external comms in the UK and Ireland and also oversaw PR for the South Africa market and the Oracle Financial Services Business Unit across EMEA. Prior to Oracle, he spent seven years at Weber Shandwick, latterly on the board of its UK tech practice, at the same time that Hargreaves was the agency's tech director.

Hargreaves said: ‘Cairbre's role will be to develop our enterprise software expertise and strategic thinking, particularly looking at the business impact of social media on the way large vendors engage with and sell to their customers'.
