Chrysalis poised to take PR in-house

Entertainment and media company Chrysalis Group is planning to end

its contract with Harrison Cowley and take PR for its Galaxy and Heart

brands in the Midlands in-house.

Harrison Cowley has to date managed consumer PR for the group’s two

brands in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

However, Heart, the largest station in the region, with 643,000

listeners, has decided to recruit its first press and PR executive for

the area.

The new recruit will also cover Galaxy in Birmingham and Bristol. He or

she will report to Heart’s marketing manager in the Midlands, Nigel

Ackroyd. Heart’s contract with Harrison Cowley runs until the end of the

month.

The decision to promote the station in-house was taken after the success

of a similar move in London last year. Jo Milloy joined Heart in the

capital a year ago as press and PR manager, replacing MacLaurin

Communications, which still handles Chrysalis Radio’s corporate PR.

Heart marketing and promotions director Miriam Nevill explained that

having someone full-time at the station had worked better. ’The

difference we saw was quite incredible,’ she said.

She added that the move was not a reflection on Harrison Cowley’s

work.

’It did a good job,’ she said.

Northern Profile will continue to handle PR for Galaxy in Manchester,

Yorkshire and an upcoming station launch in Newcastle.
