Cost-cutting Rank seeks corporate affairs director

Leisure company Rank Group, which dropped out of the FTSE 100 last

year, has combined its top investor relations and PR posts and is

seeking to recruit a corporate affairs director to fill the role.

Last year the Rank Group, which owns the Hard Rock Cafe and Odeon Cinema

chains, posted a pounds 51 million pre-tax loss. A further slowdown in

profits in the first quarter of this year caused shares to fall 5.8 per

cent.

Both positions at the group are vacant following the departure of PR

director Susan Donovan and investor relations director Anna Miller.

According to PR executive Sarah Bedford, the departures were

amicable.

Neither is currently in employment.

’Cost-cutting was a factor in the move. Rank head office has decreased

in size over the last couple of years following a rethink of how head

office operates. Rank Group is the holding company and most of the

businesses do much of their own PR at brand level,’ said Bedford.

The new corporate affairs director will oversee a team of three and

report to the board. The company hopes to recruit before its next set of

results are announced at the beginning of August.
