The Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Fund has appointed United

Biscuits’ external affairs chief, Joanna Scott, as its first head of

communications.

At United Biscuits, the world’s fourth largest biscuit maker with a

pounds 1.7 billion turnover, Scott was responsible for directing the

company’s charity and community affairs activity.

Previously she spent six years heading the communications function at

the Food and Drink Federation and, as vice-chairman of the Governors at

St George’s School in Maida Vale, handled media relations during the

aftermath of the tragic murder of the school’s head master, Philip

Lawrence.

The memorial fund has been using Bell Pottinger Communications for its

PR needs since its inception, with two staff virtually full-time since

last May, but decided earlier this year to appoint its own full-time

staff.

Amanda Clow, a Bell Pottinger consultant working at the fund said ’they

felt the fund was here to stay and it was right to appoint someone to

the post.’

There is likely to be some kind of residual relationship with Bell

Pottinger but the fund’s chief executive Andrew Purkis has yet to

announce the details.

Scott will take up her new position in June.
