Political Context to create a 45-strong outfit with an estimated fee

income of pounds 2.5 million.

Political Context will add its nine-strong offices in Cardiff and

Westminster to WS’s 35-strong team based in Edinburgh, Brussels and

Westminster. In addition WS has an affiliate agency, Stormont Strategy,

in Belfast. ’It gives us strong operations in Edinburgh, Cardiff,

Brussels and London, at a time when lobbying is going to change with a

new regional style of government,’ said WS managing director Michael

Burrell.

The move means that two of the most senior members of Political

Context’s team, Lord Clement-Jones and Baroness Thornton, will cease to

be involved with the company as WS is a member of the Association of

Professional Political Consultants which forbids its members from having

financial links with peers.

Political Context was founded in November 1996 by Leighton Andrews,

previously corporate affairs head at the BBC. WS parent company Lopex

has acquired 100 per cent of the shares in the company. Andrews

explained the rationale behind the sale: ’We were expanding quite fast

and we didn’t want to be so big that we were spending most of our time

on the administration of running a small business. We wanted to focus on

the client side.’

Andrews will be a director of WS and will report to Burrell.
