pounds 200,000 account from drinks giant International Distillers and

Vintners across four east European countries.

The agency clinched the business without a competitive pitch after IDV’s

central and eastern European marketing director Andrew Highcock sat next

to MMD Europe chairman Alistair McLeish during a flight from Warsaw to

Budapest late last year.

MMD will handle consumer and trade press relations across Slovakia,

Poland, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic for IDV’s full portfolio of

brands, which includes Smirnoff, Malibu, Jose Cuervo, Black Velvet,

Metaxa and Baileys Original Irish Cream. The agency will also give

support to IDV’s sponsorship activities and help raise its overall

corporate profile.

Wendy Walker, managing director of MMD Prague, said the agency hoped to

extend its work for IDV over the next few months to include Romania and

the former Yugoslavia.
